JKD was founded by Sigung Bruce Lee, who taught both Dan Inosanto & Larry Hartsell.

Sigung/Punung Guro Dan Inosanto continued to develop the art he was given by his teacher Bruce Lee. He also studied other arts that added to the base of his JKD.

The late Larry Hartsell was a student of Bruce Lee and was the only senior instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto. Sifu Larry Hartsell is best known for having developed the grappling in the JKD curriculum drawing from Sambo, Shooto and other grappling styles.

Paul Vunak was a student of both these men and went on to found Progressive Fighting Systems. PFS is an organization that was founded to stress the practical nature of JKD. It's focus is on effective self preservation training.

Makoto Kabayama, the first person to open a JKD school in Canada is a student of Paul Vunak and studied with both Dan Inosanto as well as Larry Hartsell. He is a senior instructor in PFS and representative for the Jun Fan JKD Grappling Association.

Bob Lazic is a certified JKD instructor under Paul Vunak. Bob started his JKD training in 2006 with Wayne Gauvin. He has also trained for many years in Iwama Ryu Aikido.

Wayne Gauvin is an instructor under Makoto Kabayama, having started his JKD training in 1998. Wayne has been teaching JKD to small groups of students in the KW area for 8 years. He has been training in martial arts for 22 years having studied Karate, Kung Fu, Arnis de Mano, Muay Thai, Judo & Jiu Jitsu.
